At Ad Astra Dog Day Kennels we provide everything your dog will need during their stay. We have a good stock of toys and treats, which are given to every dog, but you are welcome to bring their favourite treats that may help them settle in.
The bedding we use is called vet bed, which as the name implies is purposefully designed for this kind of environment. The good thing is that any moisture collects down the backs and the top is always dry. The bedding is checked and changed every time the dog is walked if necessary (twice day). The water is always changed.
Our dog kennels are designed to the highest standards, they are airy and spacious with under-tile heated floors for comfort and additional electric heating for the colder days. The tiled floor, coated walls and plastic run dividers are used for ease of cleaning and disinfection, which is done every day.
FEEDING

Food may be brought and will be given at appropriate times

Feeding is not otherwise normally included as part of day care, but biscuits and treats are freely available unless contrary to dietary requirements.

Any food brought muct be be in a sealed plastic container clearly marked with your pets name and time you would like us to give it.
VACCINATIONS

All pets must have received their annual vaccinations and proof provided on arrival

Annual vaccination must be given no closer than 14 days prior to arrival
EXERCISE

Will be individual and three times daily

Two large grass paddocks, one medium grass paddock, one concrete area
-
All fully fenced and enclosed with flood lighting

Level of exercise as individual needs dictate
Each paddock is fully enclosed by a secure 2-metre-high fence topped with an inward facing wire to further increase the height. Concrete slabs are around the base to prevent digging underneath the fence.
This allows dogs in our care to be safely exercised, which we regard as essential to their general health and wellbeing. This ranges from strenuous chasing around after a ball or other toys to a gentle meander and sniff around for some of our older guests.
All dogs are exercised with off-lead walks twice each day, morning & afternoon. We never mix dogs during exercise unless they are from the same household.
Our exercise paddocks are floodlit, as such we are still able to provide evening exercise during the short winter days.

GENERAL INFORMATION AND OUR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHY DO WE INSIST ON VACCINATIONS?

Distemper – causes severe respiratory infections and convulsions

Hepatitis – leads to jaundice and damage to the liver and kidneys

Parvovirus – a cause of very severe gastroenteritis
-
Leptospirosis – leads to jaundice and internal bleeding
These diseases are HIGHLY INFECTIOUS AND FATAL
Kennel Cough vaccinations are recommended but not required.
DO WE KENNEL XL BULLIES?
Regretfully we are no longer able to accept bookings for XL Bullies, American Bulldog crosses
or any dog of that type due to new legislation.
We do not accept any banned breed even with an exemption certificate. We also do not kennel the following:
Private security dogs, reactive dogs, Pocket Bullies, Cane Corsos, Kangols, Japanese Tosas, or dogs with a bite history.
Please note it may be necessary to suspend day kennelling for certain breeds at particularly high temperatures for their general health & wellbeing. For example, dogs such as pugs, French Bulldogs, Bulldogs etc
